Mango Healthy Fruit and Food is opening a third location.
The new location will be at 5475 Beckley Road, across from Hobby Lobby and around the corner from Sleep Doctor Mattress.
Owners Alberto and Sagario Guerrero are still waiting on a final inspection but are hoping to open late next week.
The restaurant, which opened its first location in December 2014 on the corner of Columbia Avenue and Helmer Road, sells juices, smoothies, salads, burritos and more. The focus is on fresh ingredients.
“It’s just really good food,” said Alex Spears, a regular customer. “It’s healthier for you, and there’s not really any other healthier food places to eat in Battle Creek.”
The Guerreros started working on a third location a year ago. Both their main Columbia Avenue location and the one inside the Battle Creek Family YMCA are smaller. The new location will give them a full kitchen and more room to work with.
“This third location, we really need it,” Alberto Guerrero said. “I feel great, especially because the third location on Beckley Road is a real restaurant. Everything is there. It’s pretty nice.”
The Guerreros also are hoping they can draw in customers from Harper Creek Community Schools the way their Columbia Avenue location attracts Lakeview School District students.
“We like to provide healthy food to the young kids, children and teenagers, in order to change their habits from now, so once they become adults they have a new lifestyle,” Alberto Guerrero said. “It’s what we want to do since the beginning. We try to provide to our community something good, and with this new location it’s going to be accomplished.”
The new store will have an expanded menu, including an array of breakfast options.
The hours they’ve tentatively set for the Mango on Beckley Road will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. While initially remaining closed on Sundays, they hope eventually to add Sunday hours as well.
Once the new Mango store is open, the Columbia Avenue store will close for a couple of days for repainting, Alberto Guerrero said.
Bill and Weston Gatewood go to Mango for lunch just about every Friday.
“They do it very well,” Bill Gatewood said. “Their customer service is awesome too, and it makes a big difference.”
